We are coming for 4 days on 10/21..I was told the airport is very dirty and the employees are rude....any truth to that? I also would like to know if items at the Straw Market are cheap or expensive? BUT, for the most part, the employees at the airport are very friendly as they are aware of the importance of tourism to our tiny island nation. The airport HAS seen better days and is in the process (slowly) of being upgraded. First, the runways, then the terminals. Fortunately, you will only spend a short time there as your plane arrives or departs. The Straw Market, too, is in a state of refurbishment. They are putting a new canvas roof on the temporary Straw Market, which has been used as a replacement location, ever since a fire (way back in 2000) destroyed the real Straw Market. Government seems to be dragging its feet on providing a new permanent Straw Market location for some reason. Odd, when you realise how important the attraction is, to tourism. Some of the items in the Straw Market are from Taiwan, so I would call them cheap (no offense to the Taiwanese). But, there are also some authentic Bahamian craft products that are wonderful, and inexpensive. All in all, it is still a fun place to visit and you can get some great bargains on souvenirs.
