Hi we are going to visit Nassau again in Sept with our extended family. There will be a total of 9 of us 3 being kids between 5-7 years old. We are doing a cruise on the Disney Wonder and this is only going to be a one day thing since we have to return to the boat that evening.

We did an atlantis excursion last time that I wasn't too pleased with and would really love to do some shopping then visit a beach. I know there are public beaches but I haven't a clue to what their names are, where they are and how to get to them. Any of you experts out there that could help would be GREATLY appreciated Thanks in advance.

You have at least three wonderful options.

If you arrange it ahead of time, and pay a small daily fee, you may use the private beach at the British Colonial Hilton, only a short walk from the cruise docks.

Or, a bit further west on Bay Street is an excellent public beach that some call Junkanoo Beach. It is across the street from the Holiday Inn.

For a real treat, take a water taxi to Paradise Island (they leave every 30 minutes from the cruise docks for $6.00 round-trip). You may then visit Cabbage Beach, the best beach in the area, a stunning three-miles of white sand and sparkling clear water.

Hi: I'm visiting Nassau January 2nd (staying at Breezes). I'm told it's cold in the Bahamas in January...is this true? I visited some weather networks and note the average is 25C. Would it be warm enough to swim in the ocean? How are the evenings?

Cold is a relative term. To Bahamians, it IS "cold" in January. To someone coming from New York, where it is 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) when they leave for the Bahamas, it is warm as toast.

Many, many tourists swim during the winter months and are quite happy with the water temperature.

On a sunny day, the shallow water at the beach gets heated up quite nicely, making swimming very possible and usually quite enjoyable.
