Last time I was in Nassau there was a function; I believe it was called "dancing in the streets" where vendors sold food and drink in the evening. Does this go on every Saturday?

There is dancing in the streets every night in Nassau.

But, I believe the event you are referring to would be the Fish Fry at Arawak Cay.

Every Friday night (and on other nights during the summer) there is a "festival" at Arawak Cay which includes music dancing and plenty of authentic Bahamian food.

Yes, it is really hot here that time of year. But not too hot, considering there's a nice cool ocean steps away from almost anywhere in the Bahamas.

There are numerous festivals celebrating Independence Day. The biggest will probably be at Arawak Cay on the 11th.

Some girlfriends and I are sailing to the Bahamas very soon. Can anyone advise us as to some fun (but safe) nightlife spots to visit where we might encounter other middle aged people and not just the younger crowd?

The nightclub at Atlantis has a classy, somewhat older crowd (at times). You might check it out.
