Could you please tell me what the laws are for the treatment of the surrey horses on Nassau? I was horrified by what I saw, the horses were foaming at the mouth and choking on bits, in great distress with the high heat and traffic.

I have been informed by a Bahamian animal rights activist, and also the Bahamas Humane Society, that the surrey horses are actually well cared for. They are valuable members of the tourism industry.

As in any group, there may be a few of the drivers or horse owners that do not comply with the higher standards that the others maintain.

We will continue to explore this situation.
