How are the grocery stores in the cable beach area price, variety of products..etc...also alcohol prices beer etc...

Expensive, but not outrageous. And as for variety, it's limited. I'm trying to find a furniture store and a bigger hardware store. I have a place on West Bay St. (in Cable Beach area) but don't get down very much-- I'm heading down in a week and will hopefully have more time to explore. I'll let you know!

There are only two grocery stores on Cable Beach. A Super Value and a City Market. The Super Value is way bigger and has a much better selection. City Market often has better meat.

City Market is also building a new (much bigger) store rght next to their current location. It should be done in about a year.

Everything is expensive, at least half again what you'd pay in the States.

This December my family will be travelling to Miramar Apts for a two week stay. My mother is 71 years of age, has a heart condition and is concerned about the quality of hospital care should she take ill. Any information regarding this and/or the cost of care would also be very helpful. We are not anticipating problems but we are just trying to cover all our bases so that there are no surprises. She is also having trouble trying to get medical travelling insurance for the trip (from Toronto, Canada). Comments please?

Doctors Hospital is the private hospital on the island and it is on par with hospitals in the US and probably exceeds what is available in most of Canada. Although it is important to remember it is a private hospital so the do charge.
