We are supposed to come down this Saturday. How did the island hold up? Any news on the Ritz Beach resort?

I am to come down to the Ritz Beach Resort Nov. 12th thru Nov. 19th. How did Hurrican Wilma effect the resort? Is my travel still okay? Will the resort, if effected, be back up and running in two weeeks?

Grand Bahama was devastated again by Hurricane Wilma. You'd better check personally with the resort before coming down. But, certainly the island is in no shape for visitors, even if the hotel was.

I just read a report the the Royal Oasis Golf Club and Casino has been closed since the end of September. Is this the same as the Royal Oasis Vacation CLub? I have reservations for Nov. 11/05. Do you think I should cancel?

PLEASE LET ME KNOW SOON !!!!!

Even if the place you mention were unscathed, Grand Bahama is really in no shape for tourists right now, other than Our Lucaya, which was not affected by Wilma. I would postpone my trip, if I were you.

Can anyone tell me if the Rtiz Beach Resort was affected by Hurrican Wilma? I have faxed the staff but no one has answered me. It is near Our Lucaya and I think someone said that was not touched. Appreciate some info.

The Ritz Beach Resort was relatively unaffected by Hurricane Wilma. I spoke with the hotel front desk, only moments ago, and they said they were quite ready and able to accommodate guests. The beach is in good shape and the ferry boat to Lucaya is operational.

The west end of the island is in bad shape however.

How did Pelican Point fare during/after Wilma? My friend is supposed to arrive in Freeport and stay there this Monday. Will it be a true Halloween trick or treat?

I think Pelican Point fared pretty well. I am in Nassau, which wasn't really affected at all. But, from what I have been told, your friend shouldn't have to worry depending, of course, on exactly where his accommodations are. Probably best to email or phone ahead for details.

Hello all,

First and most important, I want 2 send out my deepest sympathy and prayers to all the victims of Hurricane Wilma. I know and understand that the locals will suffer the most hardships during these times and I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am due to be in Freeport on Nov, 5th -12th and will be staying at the Ocean Reef Yacht Club. I am very hesitant about going because of what I am hearing about with the damages from Wilma. There is also another hurricane (Beta) that I heard about. I called the resort earlier this week and they said that the damages to the resort were minimal but there is currently "NO" electricity. Alot of businesses and tourist attractions around the establishment were also damaged. And on of top of that, the weather doesnt look too nice. I am really thinking about rescheduling my trip. If there is anyone from the Freeport area reading this, I wanted to know how long repair and construction usually takes. Because I'm not sure if the Resort will tell me the "Real Deal". Can somebody please help a sista out and give me the 411? Your help is much apprieciated! *Bless*

I wonder myself about this next storm and where it will land. How bad is the landscape at the Ritz Resort. Are there any trees, shrubs or flowers left there at all. I don't know if the resort is telling me the truth either.

We have a trip booked for Nov. 15 to Freeport and we have received conflicting reports as to hurricane damage. We do not want to add to the distress of your country by being there at a time where the citizens are trying to rebuild their lives. Of course the booking company has told us everything is "ok". Could someone please send an honest assessment of the situation on GBI? Do you have clean drinking water? electricity? We were thinking of coming anyway and volunteering to help with the clean up effort. Do you want help? If so, what can we bring? Do you need us to just stay away so you can recover in peace? Our thoughts are with you, it must be a very trying time right now.

GBI needs all the tourism dollars it can get, and aid with clean up, clothing, kids clothes, baby things etc for the west end would be appreciated. I'm sure the church groups will be collecting things for a long time coming.

The hotels that were hit hard will need time to recover, but there are many that were lucky enough to sustain little or no real damage.
Clean up is underway, and you should be able to have an enjoyable holiday.
Bless you
Scubagirl

Can you tell me if the casino in Port Lucya is up and running and is the landscape at Ritz Beach Resort worth coming on a vacation for? I understand they were cleaning up the landscape and I was wondering how bad it was? Thanks for you help.

We are scheduled to go to the Westin on Friday, November 4th...
Does anyone have any information to help us decide as whether or not to go?
Hotel conditions? Airport? Anything information that we could get would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

The Westin was relatively unaffected. There are few leaves on the trees but everything else is pretty normal. Also, a few of the local attractions are still closed but plan to re-open very soon.
