I just called the hotel we are scheduled to stay at (Wyndham) and they say everything is wonderful. Then my husband called another resort and is being told they're not allowed outside yet to do a damage assesment. Where can I get an honest damage report and how soon should I expect to be able to get one? I really want to go but not if we cannot do anything, I would rather postpone it if the agent will let us. I was hoping to find out not just is the hotel there, but what about the Straw Market? Snorkelling? the pool? the beach? Thanks again! The damage to the surroundings is extensive, but nothing that isn't repairable, in time. Virtually every tree is either uprooted, snapped off at the trunk or stripped of leaves. The beach is a mess but being cleaned up as I write. The water is unattractive and there is a lot of sediment. It will take a few days to clear. The pool also will be cleaned very quickly. Obviously, a storm of this ferocity will have a negative effect on all the areas it touched. Nassau was very lucky. The hurricane had diminished somewhat and did not really hit the island directly, like it did West End, San Salvador and Eleuthera. It is currently raining in Nassau, a light drizzle, but it appears that a thunderstorm may also be headed this way. To postpone your trip or not is really up to you. If that is possible, without penalties, it may be something to consider. Clearly, you will not experience the Nassau that we would normally present to tourists. But if you *do* decide to come, as scheduled, you will still have a wonderfully relaxing time as you will find that Bahamians bounce back pretty quickly, no matter what is thrown at them.
