Hello,

my parents and me wanted to visit Abacao (Treasure Cay) again at the end of October. Do anybody know how much the island was destroyed by the hurricanes ?

(P.S. we are from Germany and getting further information is not so easy, especially because of my bad English skills)

Greetings from the cold north of Germany,
Bettina

And now, of course, thanks to Hurricane Jeanne, the island is even more ravaged than before.

That is not to say that much of the tourism infrastructure will not be operative by November (Bahamians bounce back quickly despite our laid back style) but, specific hotels that suffered extensive damage may take a bit longer to be back in action.

Have you any news regarding the Coral Beach resort. I am unable to reach them by phone and due to stay there early in November. Also am interested in the Island Resort and Golf Club on Rum Cay Drive. Thank you. We are praying you are spared further tradegy from Hurrican Jeanne.

Hi ! I'm going to the coral beach area on Grand B island next week.
Is there anybody out there? Either here on this board anymore or on the beach itself.

I've stayed at the Coral Beach Hotel on GB many times and love, love, love it. It's far enough away from all the busy beaches but close enough...if you know what I mean.

well thanks for the vote of confidence. I'm slowly gathering info. Apparently there are some boat tour companies out there. One has a snorkel and also does a fishing tour. I think it's called "reef adventures" and they even pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. seems reasonable at $40 per person.

I'm kinda suprised that those companies don't have someone here, talking up their products. oh well
we don't need spam, but some info would be helpful.

I'm leaving for coral this wednesday (sept 24th 2005), I'll let you know what I find good and also bad.

Well I made it back. Nice vacation but I could have done without TS Katrina (yes the same one that hit Nawlins).
That was my first time in a storm like that. I was impressed even thou the wind speed was like 40 to 50 mph and gust to 60.
I can't even begin to imagine what a cat 5 would be like.
I lost TV right away. Then the power went out briefly. The phones elsewhere on the island went out but not the ones at the condo. I heard that the Westin up the beach a ways had no power for several hours.

But I still got to hang out on the beach and enjoy the water. Blackbeards cafe opened on Fri/sat sun. (order the cracked conch there, it's good).
They're renovating the place now and are pretty much done with the main floor. When you walk into the elevators, check them out before you go in. Sometimes a lost baby crab will be in there. LOL!

Try Jeff Albury - he took us all around the island and picked us up and deposited us back at the airport. He can be found at the airport in the reception room for Westin/Sheraton Our Lucaya Resort - if he is not there, ask about how to find him. He is an independent taxi driver who works at the airport part time. the numbers I have for him are 242-559-7121 or 242-441-1282. Enjoy your trip.
