A special Memorial Celebration Concert entitled “Rise Again” will be held this Thursday July 25th at Bahamas Faith Ministries in honor of Bahamian Gospel Legend and Marlin Award winner Kevan “Kevi Kev” McKenzie.
This highly anticipated event is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm and will feature a variety of top gospel recording artists including Christian Massive, Vision, Edison Sumner & Voices of Praise, Sweet Revival, Tracy Knowles, Bishop Lawrence Rolle, Mother Rachael Mackey, Minister Dwight Armbrister, Nehemiah Hield, Ambassador Devon Rolle & the Barak Movement, DJ Counselor and several others.
Two of Kevan’s sons Karrington and Antuwan will also perform a special remix of their fathers hit single “Drivers Seat” along with producer and recording artist Sammi Starr. Minister Vaughn Miller and Jack Thompson will serve as hosts for the event. Admission is free but a donation will be taken.
Funeral Service for Kevan Marcus McKenzie will be held on Saturday July 27th at Bahamas Faith Ministries at 1: PM. He will be interred at Lake View Gardens & Mausoleums. Kevan passed away on Monday July 15th at 8:15pm at Doctors Hospital after a long battle with colon cancer. He was 51 years old.
He was considered by many to be the pioneer of the modern Bahamian gospel sound, infusing the elements of Junkanoo and Rake & Scrape into a unique and fresh mix that no one had boldly captured before. Some of his most popular songs include “Junkanoo is Mine”, “Don’t Complain” featuring Dynamite Daisy, “Promised Land”, “Daddy’s are Special Too, “J.O.Y Joy”, “Too Much Sinning Bout De Place”, “Sunday Christian“ “Rise Again”, “Talk, Talk, Talk” and “Till Ya Dead”. He is survived by his wife Angela, four (4) children Kevra, Ashton, Karrington and Antuwan, a granddaughter, two (2) sisters and two (2) brothers including one of the county’s best entertainer and producers Dillon “D Mac” McKenzie.
