Supermodel of the Bahamas Contestants Urged To Sign Up

This year, someone’s dream will come true when they win the title of Supermodel of The Bahamas 2011… and that person could very well hail from Grand Bahama.

For three straight days, representatives of The Supermodel of The Bahamas competition will be conducting interviews and receiving applications in Grand Bahama at The 1-9-6 located at the International Bazaar.

Owner of The 1-9-6, RuthAnn Newton Lightbourne has been really been a great support to the committee in Grand Bahama insists Oilin Coakley, the event’s founder and director, who looks forward to not only luring potential candidates but also a bevy shoppers to the Bazaar.

Officials will also be accepting applications for the 2011 SuperTalent of the Bahamas which will be a separate segment for boys, girls, men and women that sing, dance, play an instrument, perform a comedic or magical act.
All applicants must be prepared to pay a deposit of $250 at the time of the interview this week.

This is all in preparation for its Grand Bahama Open Call, which will be held on January 22nd, 2011 at the International Bazaar, followed by the preliminaries on January 23rd at a venue to be announced.

Candidates must be between the ages of 7-22, for girls and women, and 7-24 for men and boys. The required height for young adult female models is 5’9 to 6′ and 5’11 to 6’2 for adult males. The event is sponsored by The Uniform Experts, Hollis Cosmetics and Day Spa, the official cosmetic line for the event and others. This year’s season will also be featured as a reality series on Jones Communications Network (JCN) later this year.

“With the event being in its 4th season, the organization has made a mark in 2010 where it has forced us to seek out a higher caliber of individuals for the industry. There is a high demand for models and talent internationally but we are also trying to build the fashion and talent industry in The Bahamas as well. Candidates must be highly passionate about the industry, and the organization is prepared to manage their careers and expose them to the world,” said Mr. Coakley.

“This is an opportunity for each individual to display their natural gifts and allow us to help develop and nurture what God has given to them. It will be worth the investment because the training they will receive is crucial and beneficial to their growth in industry, not to mention the awards and prizes. Not everyone will be a winner but everyone wins because of the experience and knowledge that will be accessible to them.”

At the Open Call held on January 22nd, model contestants will learn about commercial advertizing, how to care for their skin, how to care and style their hair, make-up
application; and they will also be given a dress code analysis, and coached on how to work the catwalk, and how to enhance their speaking skills.

At the end of the course, all participants will be given a certificate of participation.

This experience, said Coakley, will give models a stronger and competitive edge in the industry.

2010 Supermodels of the Bahamas Peandra Knowles and Sinardo Deleveaux, both of whom hail from Grand Bahama, have already been exposed to a richer experience in modeling, having walked in New York Fashion Week.

The winners experienced what the Big Apple has to offer and look forward to hitting the catwalk in the upcoming Miami Fashion Week 2011.

Then it’s on to the 2011 in the Elite Image International Top Model Search in Aruba where they will compete for the title on March 9, 2011.

Peandra Knowles was featured during New York fashion week for the designer Marco Hall, photo shoots for ESSENCE Magazine, BLACK ENTERPRISE Magazine and she was also featured on the WENDY WILLIAMS SHOW where she got to ask Wendy a key question.

Sinardo Deleveaux was booked for international designer Paul Laurence’s print clothing campaign for ESSENCE Magazine’s on-line blog.

The Open call will also be extended to the Family Islands: Eleuthera, January 29th and 30th, 12 noon to 4pm Cigattoo Inn; Spanish Wells, February 6th, venue & time to be announced; Marsh Harbour, Abaco, February 20th, venue & time to be announced.
