The
Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) honoured the best and brightest in the Bahamas
hotel industry this year at its annual Recognition Luncheon, with awards handed
out in the categories of Hotelier, Manager, Chef, Casino Executive, Sales
Executive, Supervisor and Employee of the Year.
Winners and nominees came from throughout hotel properties in Nassau/Paradise
Island and Grand Bahama, with the Radisson Cable Beach and the Sheraton Grand
each taking two wins.
Employees of Sun International properties, including the Ocean Club, led the
nominations with five, followed by Our Lucaya with four, and two apiece for the
Radisson Comfort Suites, and Sheraton Grand.
Nominated in the Employee of the year category were Jeffrey Albury from our
Lucaya, placing second runner up, and first runner up, Rodney Collie from Sun
International.
The BHA Employee of the Year award went to Crystal Bain, a bartender at
Comfort Suites. At the recognition luncheon, BHA secretary, Basil Smith said,
"Ms. Bain has received more positive comments from guests than the rest of
the hotel's staff combined. She is described as a brilliant ambassador, not only
for Comfort Suites, but for the entire Bahamas."
Finalists for Supervisor of the Year were Jerome Saunders of Our Lucaya,
second runner up, and Sun International's Vernell Miller, first runner up, with
the Radisson Cable Beach's Anthony Hall named Supervisor of the Year.
With the Sales Executive of the Year award, Mr. Smith said, "there is no
competition." It went to the Sheraton Grand's Adelaide "Della"
Smith-Hamilton. Admired for "her skill with establishing rapport with
people," and "leaving a lasting impression on customers," Mr.
Smith said she has also distinguished herself through community work.
