A team headed by Minister of services and investments Alyson Maynard-Gibson has been invited to view the multi-million dollar Emerald Bay project on Exuma to determine the financial obligations of the Government.
This was disclosed Tuesday by Prime Minister, Perry Christie during a revamped Cabinet meeting, at which the press was allowed before the working session commenced.
“It therefore means that we must have maximum efficiency and coordination between the ministries responsible for Police Officers, Works, Water, Tourism, Health and Transport,” he said.
The Prime Minister noted that there was a major requirement for the airport to meet adequate standards to accommodate the new level of visitors anticipated once the property is open.
During the budget debate in June the Minister of Financial Services and Investments had stated the Government’s commitment to the project.
She said that the project requires the further development of the airport to accommodate transatlantic flights into the island. It was also then that the minister encouraged entrepreneurs to examine carefully, the potential of Exuma’s economic growth, resulting from the Four Seasons Resort operation.
Chief Executive Officer and President of Emerald Bay Resort Holdings Limited, Kevin Clemente had told The Nassau Guardian that the development came about because it’s investors strongly believed that Exuma was poised in the threshold of success.
The developers are confident that the 219-room resort will bring an abundance of employment opportunities for Exumians and other family islanders.
