Criminals Target Midnight Movers

Superintendent and police press liason officer Hulan Hanna is warning Bahamians not to make themselves targets for criminals.

This comes in the wake of several armed robberies over the weekend.

Supt. hanna reported that the first incident ocurred at 12 midnight on September 5, in the area of Prince Lock and Key, in the Grove.

Mr. Hanna reported that Kensy Pierre was approached by two men, one armed with a handgun, who robbed him of money and his 1989 Honda Civic.

Mr. Hanna said the police then spotted the car in the vicinty of Palmetto Avenue and Market street.

One of the occupants of the car got out of the car and opened fire on the police.

After the police gave chase the suspects crashed Mr. Pierre’s car into a utility pole.

Mr. Hanna said that no on ewas injured and the suspects escaped on foot.

* At 12:30 am Saturday, Mr Eddison Meadows, 35, of Thompson Avenue, and his girlfriend were sitting in his car at his home when they were approached by a man who emerged from nearby bushes.

Mr. Hanna reported that the armed gunman robbed the couple of money and personal items.

the gunman then ordered both Mr. Meadows and his girlfriend out of his 1996 Honda Accord, licence 2345.

Mr. Hanna said as the gunman drove off he was joined by another male.

* At 1:15am Ms. Marguerite Stubbs-Thompson reported to police that while dropping off a female relative at The Park Manor Hotel located on Market Street, she was approached by two armed men who ordered her out of her vehicle. He said the two men then made off with Ms. Thompson’s car, a grey 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, licence 77235.

* At 2am Mr. Andrew Smith reported to police that while on Montagu Beach in the area of Fort Montagu, with a female friend, they were approached by a car occupied by four persons.

Three persons exited the car and robbed Mr. Smith and his female friend of money and other valuables.

Mr. Hanna said from the description received from the victims police believe the suspects used Ms. Thompson’s stolen car, licence 77235.

Mr. Hanna urged Bahamians to avoid isolated areas over the weekend after sunset.

He said this can lead to them becoming targets for persons with criminal intent. Police are aggressively investigating all matters, he said.
