The European Union (EU) has promised the Bahamian government $5 million to construct the Eugene Dupuch Law School, said Hugh Chase, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
This was one of the many issues discussed by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Leslie Miller when he recently attended trade negotiations with the European Union in Brussels, belgium.
Before this The Bahamas had asked for $2 million but the EU has promised to fund the entire amount.
While the law school will be built on government land it will will be maintained and operated by the University of The West Indies (UWI).
During the meeting, Ministers from the EU and 76 countries opened negotiations on a new trade partnership aimed at fighting poverty and integrating developing countries into the world economy.
The economic partnership agreements also reinforce the ongoing WTO negotiations.
“The key element of this new partnership is regional integration… larger markets will contribute to attracting both local and foreign investors,” said the EU.
