Angry Mob Confronts Accused Murderer

Family members of a murdered teen girl attempted to attack Maxo Tido Monday as he headed to court 5 in Bank Lane to be charged with murder before Magistrate Marilyn Meeres.

Police said that the 24-year-old of Forbes Street, Nassau Village, by means of unlawful harm, intentionally and unlawfully caused the death of Donnell Conover between April 30 and May 1.

As Tido was being escorted to court by police officers attached to the Central Detective Unit, he was harassed and ridiculed by angry family members of the deceased girl.

The accused man simply walked with his head down and at one point he appeared to be smiling or with a smirk on his face.

Once in court, Magistrate Meeres read the charges to him and he was informed that he was not required to enter a plea to the charge. Bail was denied to Tido because of the offence he faced and he was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill.

Until Tido arrived at court, the police had managed to control the thick crowd outside of Court 5.

However, as the police prepared to escort him to a waiting police car on Shirley Street, an unknown man ran towards the police and attempted to attack the murder accused.

He was subdued by waiting police officers near a phone booth close to court 5; Tido was half-way to the police car.

During the incident, the brother and father of the deceased had placed themselves near to the police car and tried to rush towards Tido just before he entered the waiting patrol car.

However, fast-acting police officers on the scene restrained the two men before any harm came to the accused.

The body of the former L. W. Young student was found partially clothed, and badly bruised on May 1 in a quarry pit near the Southern Cemetery, laying face down.

Sergeant Daxon prosecuted.
