Rape, Robbery Cases Fill Bahamian Courts

Two Greeks appeared before Magistrate Roger Gomez on Wednesday to answer a charge of rape, alleged to have taken place on board a Bahamian-registered vessel.

The charged men were Theologos Delatoloas, 20, and Nikolaos Neamonitis, 27, both of Athens, Greece.

Police said that the men while concerned together on November 1, engaged in sexual intercourse with a female of 26 years without her consent, while on board “The Millennium Cruise Ship.”

The charged pair was not required to plead to the charge and placed on bail in the sum of $10,000 with two sureties.

Additional requirements of bail were that they surrender all travel documents to the court and to report to Central Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

A preliminary inquiry was set for February 11, 2003, which will be heard by Magistrate Marilyn Meeres of Court 5.

Man on attempted rape, stealing charge

Another case heard for Court five by Magistrate Gomez involved Dennis Anthony Ingraham ham, 42, of Royal Palm Street.

The accused was charged with attempted rape, stealing and removing a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

It is alleged that Ingraham attempted to rape a female on November 3.

Another charge alleged that he stole $60 from a female and between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. removed a red 1996 Grand Cherokee jeep, the property of Bridgette Thompson without her consent. The jeep was valued at $20,000.

With regard to the rape charge Ingraham was not required to plead but he pleaded not guilty to the other two charges.

He received bail in the sum of $10,000 with two sureties and the case was adjourned for a preliminary inquiry to commence on February 11, 2003 before Magistrate Meeres.

An additional requirement of bail was that he report to the Wulff Road Police Station every Wednesday and Saturday.

Juveniles before court

Three juveniles appeared in the same court and pleaded not guilty to charges of house breaking, stealing and receiving.

The charged persons include a 13-year-old, and a 14- and 16-year-old.

Police said that the trio broke and entered the home of Dorothy Yearwood, located at Blue Berry Hill between 7.20 a.m. and 7.20 p.m. on October 15.

It is alleged that the minors stole a black compact disc holder, 28 assorted music CDs, one black wallet valued at $10, which contained $100 cash and an assortment of ladies jewellery, altogether valued at $1,065.

It is alleged that the youth received the CD holder and the 28 assorted CDs valued at $580.

The youngest boy was remanded as he had similar offences but the other two were granted bail in the sum of $1,500.

The case was adjourned to February 11, 2003.

Man charged for drugs, escape bid

In other court matters, Denero Lewis, 20, appeared before Magistrate Carolita Bethel on charges on possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to supply, in addition to attempted escape from lawful custody.

Police said that the accused possessed a quantity of marijuana on November 6 and that while in lawful police custody, he endeavoured to prevent the execution of the law by escaping from Police Constables 775 Percentie and 1296 Sands.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to the charges and a bail hearing was set for November 15.

He was remanded to prison.
