Dave Dennis Brown, also known as “Poogy”, was charged on Tuesday before Magistrate Marilyn Meeres of Court 5, with the armed robbery and burglary of the home of Reverend Timothy Stewart.
Brown was also charged with the rape of a 47-year-old woman.
A large crowd gathered near Court 5 to get a glimpse of the accused man, but remained tightly controlled by police.
Police said the 24-year-old of Carmichael Road while concerned with another and armed with a handgun, robbed Reverend Timothy Stewart of a 27-inch RCA television, a 1995 Compaq computer with printer, one Magnavox boom box, (black and green), three Nokia cell phones, one Bahamian passport in the name of Sharon Stewart and one blue 1996 Nissan Sentra car altogether valued at $12,630.
The incident is alleged to have occurred on Oct. 31.
Additionally on the same date it is alleged that Brown engaged in sexual intercourse with a female of 47 years without her consent.
Further, police charge, the accused between 11 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 31 being concerned with another, broke and entered the dwelling house of Reverend Stewart at Westridge, Cable Beach.
Police said the accused received a passport in the name of Sharon Stewart, assorted costume jewellery and a blue 1996 Nissan Sentra valued at $8,280.
Brown was not required to plead to the charges and was denied bail. He was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, Fox Hill until Feb. 18, 2003 when he will appear before Magistrate Linda Virgill for a preliminary inquiry.
Brown was also charged with other matters in the same court with Jermaine Taylor, 26, also known as “Reds” and “Yellow”, also of Carmichael Road.
The men were charged with burglary, armed robbery, attempted murder and receiving.
Police said between 11 p.m. on Nov. 7 and 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 8, they broke and entered the dwelling house of Judith and Ricardo Thompson at Number 57 Coral Lakes.
It is alleged that the accused while armed with a handgun on Nov. 8, robbed Mr. and Mrs. Thompson of $3,285 cash, two Play Station tapes, one Play Station, three Nokia cell phones, two DSS sleeves, eight CDs, three men’s watches, one ladies Gucci watch, one wallet, a piggy bank and three multicoloured T-shirts, altogether valued at $5,935.
On the same date it is alleged that the accused while concerned with another intentionally and unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Ricardo Thompson.
It is alleged that the accused received $3,131 cash and all other mentioned items altogether valued at $5,784.
Neither of the men were required to plead to the charges and were denied bail. They were remanded to prison and are expected to appear before Magistrate Linda Virgill on Feb. 18, 2003, for a preliminary inquiry.
* Ronnell Jacques Charles also known as “Charlie”, 22, of Carmichael Road appeared in the same court.
Police said the accused while armed with a handgun robbed Shannel Poitier of $250 cash, the property of Highway Convenience Store at Kemp Road on October 10.
He was not required to plead to the charge and was denied bail. He was remanded until Feb. 19, 2003.
