Nassau Gets Its Very Own London Double-Decker Bus

Sandy Port Development Company and the Bahamas Taxi Union will be operating Nassau’s first open topped London Double Decker bus. The bus will be driven and operated by the Taxi Union as a complimentary shuttle from Cable Beach hotels to the newly opened Waterfront Olde Towne Mall, located in the Sandy Port Marina village.

“We are very excited about the addition of such a fantastic tourist destination as the Olde Towne at Sandy Port on the island,” said Bahamas Taxi Union president Leon Griffin. “The bus will be a unique feature in our fleet, creating employment and awareness of this new destination.”

The bus will run hourly from SuperClubs Breezes hotel to Sandy Port from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The number 10 route buses that already run to Sandy Port will continue their services, approximately every 5-10 minutes on weekdays and 15-20 minutes on weekends.

The Mall opened this month, featuring The Cozy Corner Pub, the Miracus Day Spa and Beauty Salon, Floral Bouquet, Mrs. B’s Candle Factory, Fantastic Boutique, The Home Store and the Sandy Port Walk-in clinic.

In addition, some 30 stores and two restaurants are expected to open in a few weeks.

“The Olde Towne Mall, a festival market place, is at the forefront of the modern retail concepts that have been proven to work in America.

By providing the synergy of entertainment, dining and retail within a source, waterfront pedestrian only setting a leisure experience will be created that gives the consumer something better than they have anywhere else,” said Sandy Port Development Company president Garth Buckner.

Sandy Port Development Company Chairman Hugh Buckner said that the Mall that “adds everything to a perfect day in The Bahamas.”

“The Towne greatly enhances the product offered to guests on Cable Beach and we believe it will become the major feature in the West.”

Tourists and Bahamians can shop at the Mall until 9 p.m., accustomed to live entertainment, restaurants, a straw market and artist’s gallery.

The Mall is expected to emulate Nassau’s heritage and reminiscent of a proprietor time.

Snorkelling and other water activity are feasible with the Sandy Port beach just a walk away.

The Mall was drafted to feature a gym, medical facilities, a church and an Esso Gas station.

Phase two is currently under construction.

Once completed, the Mall will offer 30 stores, office space and apartments.

The Mall will offer some 136, 000 square foot of retail space, 20, 000 foot of restaurant space, 70, 000 square foot of apartments and 11, 000 for offices.
