While the Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie toots his own horn and basks in the glamour of his trumpet award, Rome burns.
Congratulations are in order to Mr. Christie for having received such an award. This writer is of the opinion that the prime minister is deserving of such an honor.
What has surprise me of late is Mr. Christie’s seemingly arrogant and pompous sentiments. When Mr. Christie arrived from Atlanta after receiving his global trumpet award, he made some rather belittling and self-serving remarks in relations to the Hon Tommy Turnquest. Mr. Turnquest had call a press conference to ask the prime minister to either accept or deny growing rumors that the P.L.P. had received vast amount of campaign money from known drug dealers.
While the prime minister deny the charges, he later said that had he known it was Mr. Turnquest who was asking the questions he would not have bothered to answer. He would have allowed the chairman of the PLP, Mr. Raynard Rigby to answer Mr. Turnquest’s allegations.
While the Hon. Tommy Turnquest is not in parliament having lost his seat in the last year’s election, he is still the leader of the FNM. In this writer opinion he is within his right to ask the prime minister to address allegation of such a serious nature. If Mr. Turnquest did not ask the prime minister to address such allegation he would indeed be neglecting his duty as party leader.
Either the prime minister the Hon. Perry Gladstone Christie has a short memory or is conveniently forgetful. If memory serves me right Mr. Christie was “just” the leader of the PLP about eight months back; he is now the prime minister. Politics is very fickle, those in opposition today can very easily be in government tomorrow.
Mr. Christie must not forget that he serves at the discretion of the Bahamian people. So the same people who put you in power can take you out of power, as Mr. TURNQUEST and the FNM can attest.
Will someone please ask the prime minister when since he has ascended to immortality.
I hope that those around the prime minister has the guts to pull on Mr. Christie’s “Roman cord” to remind him that he is “but a man”. Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Whenever the prime minister comes back to earth I would like him to address a few matters of public concern, if he has the time for a lowly electorate.
1) When are you going to remove Mr. Stubbs from the chairmanship of BAIC?
The situation at BAIC is becoming absolutely ridiculous. It is a national disgrace when you have the minister (Leslie Miller) accusing the executive chairman of abusing public funds! The prevailing view is, had you (prime minister) done the right thing by not confirming Mr. Sidney Stubbs as executive chairman in the first place a lot of this mess could have been avoided. Stop playing politics with the Bahamian people.
Do the right thing. Did Minister Neville Wisdom obtain cabinet approval to rent a million dollars worth of bleachers? If in fact Minister Wisdom got cabinet approval to rent (emphasis on rent) a cool million dollars worth of bleachers, what does that say of our cabinet members? Things that make you go umm…
2) Why is it taking Minister Wisdom so long for a “full reporting of all financial matters relevant to Junkanoo”?
By the look of things the Canadians will have their bleachers to Canada before we have any information on the amount of tickets sold.
3) What is the government’s policy in relation to Communist Cuba?
Do you or anyone of your ministers have any intention of visiting the dictator (Fidel Castro) any time soon?
Yours etc.,
ISKRA
