The British Colonial Hilton had it’s fair share of accomplishments for the year 2002. Through it’s enthusiastic participation in several local competitions, events and industry recognition, they were able to emerge successful.
Starting off January 2002, the Sales & Marketing Dept, accepted the Successful Meetings Pinnacle Award, by Successful Meetings Magazine. The magazine’s audience of qualified and active meeting planners chose the British Colonial Hilton as an outstanding meeting facility and awarded their continued commitment to service and excellence.
In February of 2002 the Kitchen Dept headed by Executive Chef Neil Mather were awarded the best (SKAL) Luncheon for 2001for their second consecutive win.
March 2002 took members of the elite La Chaine de Baillage of Nassau “Around Hilton’s world in Eight Courses”. An exotic culinary presentation put on again by the Kitchen and Banqueting staff, guided by Chef Mather. They were also awarded the prestigious La Chaine Award for the second time.
A superb effort was put out by Lovinia Mcdiarmid /Human Resources) and Barabra Newton/Front Office, as they won the First Annual Corporate Spelling Bee, in May of this year, sponsored by the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce. The event encouraged team participation through local corporate companies.
The country’s Independence Day on July 12 saw the hotel winning in the Best Decor category (interior), from the Bahamas Tourism Development Board during their corporate companies decorating contest.
September saw more wins as Hilton Forbes /Bellman, emerged first-runner up in the Hilton Caribbean Bartenders Competition held in San Juan, Puerto Rico with his unique drink mix “Dream Twister Delight”. He then went on to win first place in the Ministry of Tourism’s annual Culinary Classic Bartenders Competition with the winning drink “Stressfree”.
The team of Executive Chef Neil Mather, Sous Chef Jethro Knowles and Theodore Taylor also came out the winners during the Classics in the Celebrity Choice Cocktail Competition. The team along with Pastry Chef Peter Major and others picked up two individual bronze medals.
“We look forward to further successes in the upcoming year as we continue to hone in on the talents of the skills represented at this property,” said a Hilton statement.
