The Department of Agriculture has announced that dog licenses for 2003 are available at the Public Treasury, veterinary clinics and Post Offices throughout New Providence and the Family Islands.
According to the department, all dogs must be licensed and the penalty for an unlicensed dog is $40.00 per dog.
The department noted that Section Three of the Dog License Act requires that dogs three months of age or older must be licensed annually, and the tags must be displayed at all times.
The Act defines an owner to be persons on whose property a dog is found, or on whose premises a dog is known to frequent, unless the person can show that the dog is not their own and was on their premises without their consent.
Persons requiring further information on dog licensing and responsible animal ownership should contract The Animal Control Unit at telephone numbers 325-1173, a veterinary clinic or the Department of Agriculture.
