Students and teachers of CI Gibson Senior High School teamed up with business persons in the area to clean up the school’s premises on Saturday. The cleaning exercise, a spin off of Love 97 FM’s “Love Your Country” programme aimed at instilling national pride and a responsibility for one’s surroundings in Bahamians.
CI Gibson school was adopted by various businesses from the surrounding area, such as Island Wholesale, City Lumber, Bond’s Electric Motors, Family Guardian and Star General Insurance Companies, Wallace Auto Parts, Sign King, Kelly’s Bakery, National Plumbing and Colco Electric Company Limited
On Friday, business representatives presented CI Gibson staff and students with much needed garbage bins and rakes that were used to clean up the school’s premises.
Making the presentation to the students were Mr. Arthur McDonald sales and marketing manager of Island Wholesale Limited, Rudolph Cartwright of City Lumber Yard, Betine Morley of Bond’s Electric Motors, and Michelle Collie of Colco Electric Company Limited
When The Nassau Guardian arrived Saturday morning only a few students and teachers were busy raking up leaves and loose pieces of paper.
School’s principal Ms. Hall expressed her gratitude to the business community for reaching out and adopting her students. She said the partnership will go a long way in strengthening social bonds.
In a statement the business persons said they are aware that they must put their hands and heads together. They said the clean up campaign and adoption of CI Gibson was another opportunity to put their “actions where their mouths are.”
“We are doing this for our children. Students, there is good in all of us and there is good in you. Let us strive every day to create a positive school environment,” said the statement.
