DPS, Inc., a software development, consulting, and integration company dedicated to the wholesale distribution market, announced today the availability of its new DPS PocketFlash(TM) application, software that brings sophisticated customer data and order-entry capabilities into the field sales territory.
Designed to work offline from ERP/EAS applications, DPS PocketFlash runs on a Pocket PC 2002 operating system to put near real-time, customer-level data in the hands of a mobile sales force, storing new order data for later synchronization with a central ERP/EAS program. The application is an extension of the sales force interface built into DPS’s existing DPS Flash(TM) e-Business application, which gives users order entry, order history, order status, and AR history capabilities in a seamless e-Business package. DPS PocketFlash is also compatible with DPS’s entire line of enterprise applications, as well as third-party ERP products like JD Edwards and SAP.
PocketFlash is really two sets of programs — one that resides on the handheld and one that resides on the customer’s server, allowing field reps to synchronize data between the two. Field transactions are completed and stored offline for later transmission. “With PocketFlash, we’re leading the industry in near real-time data delivery and helping our customers revolutionize their businesses,” said Michael Heneghan, vice president, DPS.
One of the first customers to implement DPS PocketFlash uses it to track route sales of fruit juices to convenience stores from five trucks delivering goods throughout the Bahamas. Drivers take orders from storeowners on the spot, quickly scanning bar codes as the products are sold right off the truck, then printing receipts with fast portable printers when the customer’s order is completed, all with the PocketFlash system. They use PocketFlash offline, in near real-time, periodically placing the handheld device in a cradle to synchronize data with the company’s central ERP system running on IBM(R) iSeries(R) (AS400(R)) hardware. In this example alone, PocketFlash has had an immediate impact by nearly eliminating all field errors and significantly improving sales force productivity.
Key features of the DPS PocketFlash system include:
— The ability to run on devices using the Pocket PC 2002 operating system
— Customer-specific pricing and near real-time inventory data even in disconnected mode
— Synchronization with a central ERP/EAS system via wireless, cellular, dial-up, or cradle
— Cash/check, credit card, or on-account payment accommodation
— On-the-spot invoices/receipts
— Search, scan, and manual order entry options
— Password protected data
— A single, one-time purchase price for unlimited users
— Custom options upon request
