Government To Sign Agreement With AES Corp. In Two Weeks

The government is two weeks away from signing a Heads of Agreement with AES Corporation for the construction of a pipeline that will transport liquefied natural gas (LNG) from The Bahamas to Florida, The Tribune has learned.

Leslie Miller, minister of trade and industry, said the agreement, which is expected to add an additional $15-20 million per year to public revenues, is currently before the government’s legal department, which was making corrections to the document and is expected to complete its review in a matter of weeks.

He denied claims that AES Corporation and the other companies bidding to construct the pipeline, Tractebel and El Paso, had chosen The Bahamas for the project because of its “soft regulations.”
