The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) yesterday issued an angry denial to the “real concerns” developers of the $300 million Four Seasons Emerald Bay Resort have regarding its ability to provide a reliable power supply to the five-star development, arguing that it will have spent $18.6 million to ensure electricity demand is met.
In a statement issued yesterday in response to The Tribune’s exclusive inteview with Kevin Clemente, the president and chief executive of the Emerald Bay project, BEC said it had only been informed six weeks ago that Emerald Bay’s projected electricity requirements had increased from 4,000 kilowatts to 9,000 kilowatts, and blamed construction work at the resort site for “numerous island wide outages” on Exuma that resulted from incidents such as vehicles colliding with poles.
