Divine inspiration?

Among the sad but sure signs of advancing age are faltering sight and a slip in hearing. And, since the Guardian is 159 years old, it’s quite possible we don’t see as well as we used to.

That could be why we thought that in the pages of this newspaper the other day we saw a reference to God having been made man again. Must be true. It was right there in the newspaper. Mother Pratt telling us that when God steps up and casts his ballot, it’s only for the Progressive Liberal Party.

And here we have been telling the Bahamian people for years that practicing democracy is not only their right but also their duty, and voting for the party of their choice is one of the important ways of exercising those privileges.

We’ve even gone so far as to tell people that if they don’t like the incumbent party, the way to deal with their unhappiness is not to run their mouth but to exercise their franchise on voting day. And now, at this venerable age, we discover we are dead wrong. It’s not the people, it’s God, the big balloteer, who decides who’s in and who’s out.

With God back on earth and voting PLP, there doesn’t seem to be any point to the Free National Movement’s expensive convention shindig this week on Cable Beach. Come to think of it, there’s no point in anyone running for anything unless they are PLP. God said so through Mother Pratt.
