Management 'Sick-Out' At Water HQ

Middle management at the Water and Sewerage Corporation staged a sick-out to protest the terms of pay and work benefits at the company, The Tribune was told.

According to a source close to the union, a strike is a bad idea.

"Basically these workers, who represent less than ten per cent of the corporations workforce, are complaining about salaries. Well they get paid more than their counterparts at BEC and BaTelCo."

The source said that Water and Sewerage workers are paid for overtime, unlike many middle managers in the private sector. "if they work overtime they get paid, sometimes they can make $500 if they work on a Saturday."

The source said that traditionally the three successive governments have always treated Water and Sewerage employees fairly.
