Local meteorologists are predicting a “highly active” 2003 hurricane season.
And with the start of the season just over one week away, chief “met” officer Basil Dean is urging Bahamians to begin to focus on pre-hurricane precautions and remain vigilant throughout the remainder of the season, which ends November 30.
Mr. Dean said that although technology is in place to track the progress of storms, the warnings are “virtually useless” if residents do not adequately prepare themselves or their homes.
Mr. Dean said the damage that could result in category 2-5 storms could be “horrendous”.
