Bay Street was in uproar last night as a man went on a wild rampage, smashing 21 store windows with a hammer in a frenzied protest over the city’s straw market.
Onlookers watched in horror as the man vented his fury, claiming several stalls were blocking the entrance to the market, causing vendors to lose money.
Nearly 600 vendors now say they are ready to stage a massive demonstration unless the government acts quickly to solve the problem.
Late last night the poutspoken president of the Straw Market Vendors Association, Luke Small, was being held for questioning by the police investigating the extraordinary incident, which left a trail of damage all the way from the straw market to Frederick Street.
