A commission of inquiry has been established to examine the Defence Force arrest of the vessel Lorquin, from which some of its cargo of confiscated drugs disappeared, and the subsequent investigation into the matter.
It is proposed to appoint a retired Supreme Court judge Stanley Moore as sole commissioner to investigate these matters.
During his contribution to the budget debate, Attorney General Alfred Sears announced that hearings should start within the next few weeks as soon as accommodation to house the commissioner is prepared.
The incident known as “the Inagua incident” was brought to the public’s attention after comments by US Ambassador Richard Blankenship alleged improprieties by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force during the arrest of the Lorequin for alleged illegal drug trafficking in June 1992.
