Murder Total Rises After Weekend Deaths

The island of New Providence has recorded its 20th and 21st homicides for the year.

Superintendent Hulan Hanna, police liaison officer reported that 45-year-old, stabbing victim Mr. Dino Ferguson, of Wilson Tract succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Mr. Hanna reported that Mr. Ferguson was stabbed on May 28 in the area of Cordeaux Avenue.

He further said that the charge of causing harm laid against Mr. Ferguson's assailant, will have to be upgraded to murder.

* Twenty-two-year-old Terez Moss, of #128 South Beach also died of stab wounds he received after an altercation in the area of Prince George Dock. Supt. Hanna reported that Mr. Moss died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the Princess Margaret Hospital's operating theatre.

He said Mr. Moss received stab wounds to his right side and abdomen after being involved in a fight with another man

Mr. Hanna said police have a 25-year-old man in custody who is scheduled to be charged with the murder on Monday.

* Supt. Hanna further reported that at 3:40 a.m. The Grand Central Restaurant was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash.

He said two men, one of whom was armed with a hand gun, held up and robbed a male employee of cash and escaped on foot.

* Earlier in the week, Supt. Hanna reported that a 35-year-old prison officer was arrested for drug possession.

He said on Thursday June 12, at 9:45 officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information took up positions in the vicinity of Her Majesty's Prison, Fox Hill and watched a 1992, Ford Explorer being driven in a southerly direction toward the prison. He said officers followed the Explorer into the prison compound where they approached the vehicle. He said officers then searched the prison officer dressed in uniform and the vehicle he drove.

The search revealed two and a quarter pounds of Marijuana.

Supt. Hanna said the prison officer is expected to be charged before the courts this week.

* Continuing with news from the prison, at 5:35 p.m. Saturday afternoon, prison officers conducted a search on the person and cell of a 32-year-old inmate who had just returned from a work scheme. Supt. Hanna said the search of the inmate found that he had in his possession three and a half ounces of marijuana.

* In crime news from the airport, Supt. Hanna reported that at 11am Friday morning officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit detailed at Nassau's International Airport conducting observations, saw a man enter the terminal area and collect two suitcases.

Supt. Hanna said this alerted the suspicion of the officers who searched the man and opened the suitcases which contained $151, 738 in US currency. Police took a 36-year-old man into custody for questioning.
