Cronyism Behind Oil Licenses

They note that the recipient company, Kerr-McGee, is represented in the Bahamas by the law firm of a government MP.

Local environmental group Re-Earth yesterday protested that Davis and Co, the law firm of government MP Philip “Brave” Davis, is retained as the legal representative Kerr-McGee, the US company that was last week granted licenses to conduct oil exploration in areas of Great Bahama Bank. It likened the agreement to what it claimed were contracts awarded to US government cronies in the reconstruction of Iraq.

ReEarth also protests government’s refusal to engage in public consultation before signing the agreement.
