Aggrieved German investor Harald Fuhrmann has created a world-wide network of 2,600 journalists to disseminate information on what he called “the trap” of corruption that is The Bahamas.
Mr. Fuhrmann said that his organisation, Bahamas Consult, uses these contacts to spread the message, not only that The bahamas can be a hostile atmosphere to foreign investors, but also that visitors “go home and feel cheated and taken for a ride”.
Mr, Fuhrmann, who has carried on a sustained Internet attack on the Bahamas for almost three years, told The Tribune yesterday that his efforts were not motivated simply by his own ill treatment by government but were pursued in the interest of justice and honesty.
He said more honesty from the government on issues ranging from alleged corruption in The Bahamas legal profession, to deficiencies in the nation’s tourism product, would in the end have a positive result for the country’s reputation.
Mr, Fuhrmann told The Tribune yestreday that in 2000, Bahamas Consult began compiling a “list of important addresses of journalists”.
According to Mr. Fuhrmann 1,100 of the contacts are in Germany – where he pointed out, the world’s biggest tourism fair is held. He said included in this number are many foreign journalists who travel to Germany for the fair.
Mr. Fuhrmann said that in addition to this, the addresses of 700 jhournalists affiliated with newspapers and magazines, as well as 100 addresses in Canada and 300 throughout Europe are on the list.
