Lyford Cay Resident Tied Up and Robbed

The robbery happened aroun 9:30pm on Monday while Mr. Tim Fraser-Smith was on the patio of ‘Blue Skies” at the western end of Lyford Cay where he has an apartment.

Mr. Fraser-Smith said he was filling the swimming pool with water and had just gone out of his apartment to turn the water off when when the men, wearing masks and carrying guns, approached him.

They forced him back into his home. They wanted to know where his safe and valuables were. When told he had no safe, they took him into the bedroom, tied him up and left him on the bed while they ransacked the apartment. They escaped with money and jewellery.

Mr. Fraser-Smith said it was difficult to describe them. ” ‘Don’t look at us,’ they told me and I complied,” he said. Although they wore balaclavas, he believed they were Bahamians.

The robbery has alarmed weathy Lyford Cay residents, who were shaken about seven months ago when Canadian fashion tycoon, Peter Nygard, was robbed by a gang who fled in a boat.

Mr. Nygard was forced to open a safe by robbers who somehow managed to get through the tight security at his multi-million dollar home.

One Lyford Cay resident said at the time: “If he can be robbed, any of us can be robbed. Although the estate has good security arrangements, the approach by sea is a continuing worry.”
