Voyager Cruises is getting rave reviews from passengers who have enjoyed our evening sail, a company spokesman said.
The company operates two hand-carved 10th century Viking ship replicas, the Embla and Odins Ravn. Originally sailing in Oslo, Norway, the King of Norway enjoyed festive, floating Christmas parties aboard the ship.
The 100-foot-long vessels are the longest Viking ships in the world and are based at Hurricane Hole Marina on Paradise Island. They are owned and operated by Bahamian Captain Zyndall McKinney and wife Celestine, who spent many years working at the Treasure Cay Beach Hotel in Abaco.
“I enjoy forgetting everything and just interacting with the guests,” said Mrs McKinney, who tailors the evening’s entertainment to fit the personality of the crowd. Some nights it’s a dance contest and on others it’s a trivia marathon.
With 22 years experience sailing Bahamian waters, Captain McKinney feels at home aboard the wooden ships, which can each carry up to 150 passengers. They operated for a year under former owners, Viking Cruises, before Captain Zyndall took to the helm this March.
Voyager offers three-hour sunset dinner cruises on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Boarding time is 6:30 p.m. at the Hurricane Hole Marina. Dinner is an upscale three-course buffet offering fresh seafood and meats. The ships are also available for group charters for lunch or dinner cruises. Voyager Cruises also offers day excursions to Rose Island.
