Gov’t In Talks On New Cable Beach Hotel

Th government is in talks with investors about developing a 100-plus room hotel on the Cable Beach site currently occupied by the Gaming Board and The Bahamas Development Bank, The Hotel Corporation’s chairman revealed The Tribune yesterday.

George Smith said that if negotiations were successfully completed, the Gaming Board and the Development Bank would be relocated from their current sites opposite the Cable Beach Golf Course to a complex situated in the north/west Prospect Ridge highway corridor currently under construction.

The complex would house the Development Bank, the Gaming Board and a number of commercial outlets. If this happened, Mr Smith said it would also mean the closure of the road directly in front of hotels on the Cable Beach strip, in an attempt to make the area more inviting to tourists.

In an interview Mr Smith said the Hotel Corporation management had reduced the number of bidders for the Radisson Hotel and Resort to about six or seven who could be expected to put forward solid proposals. Out of that group, about three were more serious and appeared to be in a position to raise the capital to back their intentions.
