The shortage forced some customers to switch to other suppliers.
Dorothy Rolle, who purchases Texaco fuel for her 1999 Chevy Blazer, became irritated by the news after pulling into the Prince Charles station.
“I use only Texaco gas in my vehicle and to pull up to the station and hear the pump attendant say that there wasn’t any gas, I was quite [upset],” Ms. Rolle said. “I think the gas stations should always have a back up plan for times like these.”
Meko Saunders, a small car rental dealer, was also forced to make alternative plans.
“Today was the first time in a long time I used another kind of gas in my cars after I visited several Texaco service stations and was told that there wasn’t any gas,” Mr. Saunders said. “I am quite disappointed in Texaco for not keeping the ball rolling.”
The unavailability of gas at many of the Texaco pumps prompted officials at the oil company to release a statement on Monday stating that due to shipping logistics, gas stations would be out of gasoline until Friday.
According to Texaco Marketing Manager Algernon Cargill, both The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos are affected by the late shipment of hundreds of gallons of gasoline.
Only three of Texaco’s 13 service stations in New Providence had gasoline supplies on Monday. The three locations are the stations on Thompson Boulevard, Joe Farrington Road and Montague.
Dave Slaughter, general manager at Texaco Bahamas Limited said in the statement that all Texaco service stations are open for business and have a full supply of diesel and other products.
“We expect this situation to be remedied by Friday, August 29 and we apologize to our customers and the general public for this inconvenience,” Mr. Slaughter said.
He also reminded the public about Texaco’s Summer Safety & Sports Promotion which has been extended to September 12, 2003.
“Texaco Bahamas Limited and its retailers remain committed to safety, youth and community development and look forward to the ongoing support and cooperation of the Bahamian community, as together we continue to build a better Bahamas,” Mr. Cargill added
