A visit to the park on Sunday showed that after the one day function came to an end on August 23, the trash was still uncollected by sanitation workers.
A 37-year-old, concerned resident, spoke to the Nassau Guardian on Sunday under the condition anonymity said that after the street festival, "everybody had their fun," but the only damper was that "they left all of their garbage in the park."
He said he was especially displeased with the condition of the park, because it is a place where the children congregate to play and one would not expect them to go on the park now and play with all that garbage.
The irate community member said from Tuesday past, he called the Englerston office to find out what would be done with the situation, but there was no one at the branch office.
In addition he said through his inquiries he was told that Ron Pinder the parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Health would send a team down to clean-up the area. "I have not seen anyone yet," he said.
"To my knowledge the area should have been cleaned by now," Mr. Pinder said when contacted by this daily for comment on the situation. "I think we got a report on Thursday to that effect," he said, but he indicated that he would personally take a look at the area and if it was not cleaned, he would make further inquiries. "To my knowledge that should have been cleaned, but they ran into difficulty simply because no one informed us of the festival occurring in the first place. When they called us, it was to complain about some garbage that was not removed," he said.
Mr. Pinder promised that a crew of sanitation workers would be dispatched to the area on Sunday afternoon to have the area cleaned.
Initially Olive Forbes, Public Relations Director, of The Street Fair Committee, said that the clean-up project took two months to complete. She stated that the area was thoroughly cleaned and the basketball court which was in terrible condition had a brand new coat of paint.
Member of Parliament for the Englerston constituency, Glenys Hanna Martin is on an official trip to China.
