Stand By For 'Positive' News On BEC Rates – Peet

After a near three-month Summer break, Parliamentarians are expected to report for House of Assembly duty at 10:00 a.m.

The House adjourned on June 25 after passing the 2003-2004 Financial Year Budget.

The U.S. embassy announced yesterday that the temporary withdrawal of pre-clearance personnel at Nassau and Freeport has been lifted and normal services will resume today. Mr. Peet told The Guardian Tuesday that sessions will start with the second reading of A Bill for an Act to provide for the Registration of Engineers, to be moved by the Minister of Works and Utilities, Bradley Roberts.

"The Engineers Bill was on the agenda for a long time," Mr. Peet said, and will be debated today.

"We will certainly have a number of other Resolutions to be brought in between tomorrow and next week, one of which will deal with Clifton Cay," he noted.

A Resolution is expected to be made to establish the Clifton Heritage Foundation to preserve Clifton Cay, in addition to dealing with matters left on the agenda since the last House sitting.

Several communications are also expected from Prime Minister perry Christie and Minister of Works and Utilities Bradley Roberts in relation to the Bahamas Electricity Corporation.

In addition to an expected announcement on Bahamas Electricity Corporation charges by the utilities Minister, Mr. Peet said, several Bills will be read for the first time.

These include: The Resident Care Bill, which will address matters concerning elderly persons; the IBC Amendment Bill, and a number of other financial legal initiatives.

Responding to a question on the matter, Mr. Peet that the on-going issue of public servants receiving promised pay increases is not expected to be "brought up", as the Government has already made its position clear.

"The Government is constantly speaking to the union. There are regular meetings along those lines and I don't think there would be a communication, but if somebody asks a question about it, there may be some clarification," he said.

Notices of motions listed on today's House agenda include:

* A Bill for an Act to provide for The Registration of Engineers, for the regulation and control of Professional Engineering and related purposes

* A Bill for an Act to implement the United Nations Convention, respecting the suppression of the financing of terrorism, The United Nation's Security Council

Resolution 1973 of Terrorism and generally to make provision for preventing and combating terrorism

* A Bill for an Act to amend the Business Licence Act to make provision for a Temporary Business Licence and for ancillary matters

* A Bill for an Act to provide for the regulation and management of day care centres and pre-schools.
