Billionare Targets South Ocean Resort

Sources have confirmed to The Tribune that African-American businessman Robert Johnson, the former owner of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and chief executive of Black Entertainment Incorporated, had recetly met with the Prime Minister to discuss the potential purchase of the South Ocean Golf and Beach Resort.

It is also thought that South Ocean Golf and Beach Resort’s potential casino license, which would come on stream if the property reaches a particular size, is also proving attractive to Mr. Johnson.

The hotel’s current owner is RHK Hotels, the hotel property arm of RHK Capital, the Canadian private equity fund headed by Ron Kelly, which also owns downtown Nassau’s British Colonial Hilton resort.

Mr. Johnson sits on the board of the Hilton Hotels, the company that operates the British Colonial Hilton under a management agreement, thus giving hima direct route of access to Mr. kelly.
