Suffragan Bishop of New Providence Gilbert Thompson made the statement yesterday as Anglican leaders attended a meeting in England and moved a step closer to separation from the American church by condemning the appointment of the openly gay priest as Bishop of New Hampshire in the U.S.
Archbishop Drexel Gomez is alos among the leaders of the Anglican church who have denounced the consecration of openly gay priests, including Canon Gene Robinson. The Tribune attempted to contact Archbishop Gomez yesterday for comment but was unsuccessful.
In an agreed statement, according to BBC reports, 37 clerics (Archbishops from around the world) expressed their “deep regret” over the appointment of Gene Robinson as Bishop of New Hampshire.
