After six months of intense investigations, a 35-year-old Bahamian was charged with five counts of murder – four in connection with the five missing boys, and one in the death of a 22-year-old Freeport man.
Appearing in Court One before Magistrate Franklyn Williams, Cordell Farrington, an employee of Kelly's Freeport Limited, was charged with the murder of Mackinson Colas – 12, DeAngelo McKenzie – 13, Junior Reme – 11, Desmond Rolle – 14 and Jamaal Robins – 22.
No one, not even members of the press were allowed inside the courtroom for the arraignment, which started at 11am.
Farrington, a resident of No 11 Poinciana Drive, was reported to have gone to the police station and given himself up on Sunday morning. Five skeletal remains were then found in remote areas of eastern Grand Bahama.
At about 10:55am Farrington was brought to the courthouse in a police bus and was quickly led inside by several officers. He showed no emotion, walking briskly with his head held high.
According to reports, it is believed that Farrington has a sister serving as a detective in Freeport, and a father on the police force in New Providence.
It is also believed that Farrington moved to Grand Bahama from Nassau about a year and a half ago. He lived in Freeport with his common-law wife and three children, including a 2-month old baby and a five or six-year-old son.
