There had been some speculation that this would happen as part of a settlement with photographer Antoine Ferrier who captured the image of Sir Lynden, but was never compensated.
Concern began to arise recently when new notes bearing the Queen’s image entered circulation.
Governor Francis explained, however, that the Central Bank retains an inventory of both notes adding that occasionally both varieties may circulate simultaneously.
“I think there is apparently some concern in the public about the Queen’s image replacing Sir Lynden’s, but the bank is absolutely committed and it’s a matter that’s been determined by the Cabinet that it’s the image of Sir Lynden which will adorn the one-dollar bill,” Mr. Francis said.
He added, “As I indicated previously we have many millions of the notes, which bear Sir Lynden’s image would be widely unpopular.
“It would not be wise to take Sir Lynden’s image off the one-dollar note because he is the Father of the Nation and a lot of people would be unhappy if his image was removed,” said Mr. Ferrier.
