Three men in a white Oldsmobile opened fire on the police on Fox Hill Road around 2:10am Saturday, after a dramatic high speed chase which began and ended on Fox Hill Road. The police wanted to question the driver of the car about a defective tail light when the Oldsmobile sped off.
The chase took the police through Sandilands Village and then eventually back onto Fox Hill Road where, according to the police the three men got out of the car and opened fire on the two officers.
None of the officers were injured.
One of the men, a 20-year-old resident of Millennium Gardens was shot in the abdomen, and was listed in stable condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital up to press time yesterday.
A second man, a 21-year-old of Pinewood Gardens, was shot in the shoulder. He was treated and discharged from the hospital and is now in police custody.
The third man, a 20-year-old from Pinewood Gardens, was not injured in the shooting. He was arrested by the police.
After the scene had been secured, officers recovered from the trunk of the Oldsmobile a .45 pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition, a .9mm pistol with 13 live rounds, ski masks, camouflage outfits and handkerchiefs.
“This is certainly and indication that were these officers not alert then certainly there was the possibility of these young men terrorizing some part of New Providence,” said Supt. Marvin Dames, the officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit.
