If the 15 Korean vessels go to sea, men on many bahama islands – especially fishing strongholds like Abaco and Spanish Wells – will be ready to join Andros protesters in demanding government action.
The issue rests on whether the boats, all currently docked in Morgan’s Bluff, are really Bahamian owned or foreign boats fishing Bahamian waters behind a bogus stamp of local ownership.
Last night, Andros sources said there was much consternation over the issue. Andros fishermen concerned about the Korean fishing fleet have been in touch with colleagues in other parts of the Bahamas to seek solidarity and support.
“Depending on how things go over the next few days there could be a massive protest,” said one source. “In fact, violence could be the result.”
The Andros fishermen want full disclosure as to the ownership of the boats.
