The protest is believed to have been caused by frustration at the stalemate in current negotiations between the Bahamas Hotel, Catering and Allied Workers Union and the Bahamas Hotel Employers Association.
The two groups have been in negotiations for months over a new industrial agreement, which affects 11 properties in New Providence and Paradise Island.
Both the management of Atlantis and representatives of the BHCAWU said they had not been expecting the protest and neither group could confirm motivation for it.
Atlantis officials gave little away about the details of the “illegal work stoppage”
Their statement said simply that the protest was confined to certain areas of Atlantis and that it “did not affect overall operations at the resort.”
Pat Bain, president of the BHCAWU, said that yesterday’s protest was not authorised by the union.
