Minister Fails Attempt To Cancel BAIC Credit Cards

Mr. Miller wrote to the bank to ask it not to honour any BAIC credit cards until further notice from the Minsitry. However, on finding out about Mr. Miller’s letter, BAIC executive chairman Sidney Stubbs reported it immediately to the Minister of Finance, who, according to Mr. Stubbs, decided that the letter should not be acted upon, as only the board of the BAIC, and not the minister, has authority to cancel BAIC credit cards.

When The Tribune put this to Mr. Miller yesterday, he said, “I wish there was a board of BAIC! The board is now non-functional. They don’t hold any meetings, and decisions are made on a daily basis without any regard to the board or minister. So I took it upon myself to cancel the credit cards – I’m trying to correct a situation that is totally out of control. We need transparency in BAIC with regard to the use or abuse of credit cards.”
