An anonymous press release received by The Tribune said, "attorneys of the Office of The attorney General are ill as a result of the current working conditions."
According to Director of Legal affairs Rhonda Bain, 10 or 11 lawyers called in sick Monday, although she could confirm whether their absence was part of an organised sick-out. However, a source told The Tribune that as many as twenty-one attorneys were involved in the protest, which may continue if the problems persist.
The source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that only 12 attorneys went in today. They were all either contractual legal officers or had not been informed of the protest. The source also claimed that two of the office's three deputy directors are involved in the protest.
The document received by The Tribune lists three isues that have caused this mystery "illness":
— Management lacks focus and has no plan, vision or strategy to deal with either local or global issues effectively.
— The office is grossly understaffed. Each lawyer is doing the work of at least three senior lawyers.
— The attorneys lack many of the requisite tools of the trade in order to properly perform.
