Talk Show Challenge Sparks Ministers' Fury

Tempers flared on Jones and Company Sunday as host Wendall Jones pressed Transport and Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin and Minister of Works Bradley Roberts for concrete answers as to what their administration has done, 18 months after becoming the government.

The heated debate boiled over when Mr. Jones chided Minister Hanna-Martin for not being aware of a $2 million survey of Nassau’s traffic done by the former FNM administration.

Said Mrs Hanna-Martin, “This week I raised the issue of the public busing system before the Cabinet on the whole issue of seeking to introduce a unified public service bus system. We are working on that now as we speak. But in the course of that discussion we discovered that 10 years ago under the previous administration, certain reports had been done that $2 million was spent on looking at transportation problems in this country. Now as a result of me having that revelation, we are now going back to analyse that report done 10 years ago before we spend another million on what we have to do.”

Replied an alarmed Mr. Jones, “You should have known, you have been in the industry for 18 months. How long would it take for you, Mrs Hanna-Martin, to know there was a report on the transportation industry costing the taxpayers $2 million.”
