BEC In ‘Exploratory’ Talks With Trinidadian Oil Company

Minister of Trade and Industry, Leslie Miller, BEC Executive Chairman, Alfred Jarrett, and General Manager, Bradley S Roberts, along with BEC Senior Management and Representatives of Trade and Industry recently held exploratory discussions at BEC with representatives of the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Petrotrin) to discuss ways of reducing BEC’s oil expenditure.

“The Bahamas Government’s goal is to bring down the cost of energy to the Bahamian people as much as we can,” said Minister Miller, “and not only at BEC, but also at the pumps, which is just as important.”

Mr. Jarrett said a new alliance with Petrotrin would be considered quite timely, and according to Mr Roberts, would significantly reduce the cost of fuel which is the Corporation’s single largest operating expense.

Manager of Marketing and Trading, at Petrotrin, Kenneth Allum, who is visiting The Bahamas for the first time, said Petrotrin would be happy to begin a relationship with BEC. “We are prepared to assist in any way we can to meet your objectives of bringing down the cost of fuel for your customers,” he said. Accompanying Mr. Allum in these preliminary discussions was Petrotrin Manager of Sales and Trading, Capildeo Narinesingh.

Further exploratory meetings are expected to be held with BEC and Petrotrin Representatives in the coming weeks.
